About the event

On Monday, May 26, Unity Beyond Borders founder Tanner Evan Bergsma will speak before Waterloo City Council to raise a crucial question: In the pursuit of economic growth, who is being left behind?

As council debates amendments to By-Law 2019-026 — enabling tax deferrals for industrial and commercial sectors and expanding “Buy Waterloo” campaigns — Tanner will call for transparency, equity, and a firm commitment to the people most affected by poverty, displacement, and economic exclusion.

While millions struggle with rising costs, housing insecurity, and unmet basic needs, Waterloo cannot afford to prioritize corporate flexibility over community accountability. Economic development must not come at the expense of human dignity.

Join us inside council chambers. Demand that your city invests in people — not just profits.
